School Age

My oldest is very negative towards his little brother. Help!

My oldest son (5 years old, big brother) lately has been using negative words and actions against my middle child (3 years old, middle brother). He says he doesn’t like to play with him, he isn’t very nice to him (especially in front of other people).

How do we know what our parenting choices are in difficult situations with my neuro-divergent child?

How do we know what our parenting choices are, how to draw those lines in the face of what we have, many cooks in the kitchen with advice and at the same time keep our ears and eyes open to make sure we aren’t in denial or falling into the trap of our own fears?

What is the best way to talk to my children about school shootings?

Since this is a hot topic, can you direct us on the best way to talk to our kids about school shootings? I have a 3rd grader and I know this will be a hot topic at school tomorrow, and I want to know how to address it appropriately for an anxious 9-year-old. I’m sure other parents in this group can also benefit from your words.

How to approach a teacher that's not very flexible and may be unhealthy for my child?

We wanted some guidance about school and the best way to handle this. One of my daughter’s teachers is super organized, communicates in advance about deadlines or events; prefers kids to finish their work/projects in school and sends very little homework (hw is actually whatever the student could not finish in class), which is greatly appreciated.
On the other hand, from the interactions I had with her, reports from my daughter and from other moms (who hear from their kids) this teacher seems to have a very traditional approach with the kids. She doesn’t allow her students to “talk back”, meaning, when they try to explain or clarify a situation, i.e, tell their side of the story, teacher replies with, “no buts or you’ll get a conduct cut for talking back” or shames them in front of the class.

My son has been having tics for almost 2 years now and they have not gone away since they started. Help!

My son has been having tics for almost 2 years now and they have not gone away since they started, he just has some days better and some days worse.
Will they eventually go away as he outgrows them or they might stay?
Do we need to be worried at some point and do more than what we are doing now to calm his nervous system? Thank you!!

My child doesn't like it when I compliment them... why?

Today at my kids annual check up, my son was super sweet and cute holding my daughter’s hand while she was afraid of having a shot. In the car I said how proud I was and that was so nice of him. As soon as I started to compliment him he said ”don’t talk about that”. It made him uncomfortable that I was complimenting him in that way.  Why is it so uncomfortable to hear about something he did that was so sweet?

Is Girl Scouts the right fit for my daughter?

This afternoon we had our 2nd Girl Scout meeting. It’s about 15 girls and moms that I don’t really know (combo of K & 1st graders). I told my daughter before the meeting that her vest may look a little different than the other girls as her yellow flag pin hadn’t arrived. When we got there and it was time for all the moms to pin a gold pin on the yellow flag my daughter had a fit and ran out of the room. I coaxed her back in but then she said “girls scouts is so stupid, it’s so boring, all we do is draw. I hate Girl Scouts.” I was mortified. Several of the moms in the room have worked so hard on the meetings, making them s
