Question
Good morning, my 15 y/o is completely unmotivated for school. He gets good grades easily but his grades are starting to decline from A’s and B’s to D’s. Aside from this he is going through low confidence moods. It’s not always but enough to make me worry. What can we do to guide him through this?
Answer
If there is support at school where an adult at school can guide your 15y/o to get the work done then use that support. Get the school counselor involved and ask them how they can help you with this process.
Also, sometimes a freshman in high school has to fail - to feel the motivation. This sounds harsh but it is important for the natural consequences of the grades to help him learn the lesson of how to get moving.
Another option is to get an executive function coach/tutor that can help.
