Question
I want to follow up on what you said about homework and not helping the kids.
My girls always have questions and things they don't understand and I have to help them. They are also doing a science project that they would not be able to do without my help.
Is it best to let them fail, not turn in assignments and not help them at all?
It seems extreme and I obviously do not want them to fail........what are your thoughts?
Answer
Help them find the answer, not give them the answer.
With science projects, help them and teach them how to plan and find a science project but do not do the project for them.
It's about helping them with the mechanics of being a student, not going beyond their knowledge or doing the work for them. It's not about a grade, it's about helping them do their best.
Keep in mind, DON’T mess with the teachers data. If you give them the answers then you are messing with the teachers data and they wont know that the child doesn't know. It's okay to let the teacher know that the work they are giving is beyond the means of your child.
Your child will be frustrated and scared because they don't want to fail. But learning requires failure and mistakes.
