Question
We had the meeting this morning with MDPS to get my daughter her 504.
I am confused though as to whether or not we need to get her assessed by a psycho-educational therapist or continue to see her neurologist?
We had started the assessment process but put it on hold as I wanted to switch therapists. In the initial assessment with the psycho-ed her skills ranged from very high (verbal 98th percentile) to below average (processing speed-18th percentile). As you know it is very costly to get her assessed so just wondering if it's still needed? Or do we continue to see her neurologist? Just wanted to get your input. Thank you!!!
Answer
Double check, but now that your daughter is in the system (the 504) then MDPS can give her the psycho-educational evaluation. Ask them to have an MDPS psychologist evaluate her.
That way you don’t have the expense.
Also it may be time to get support from an educational advocate so you don’t have to do all this “system” managing alone.
I recommend her: https://www.myeducationalsolutions.com
And yes, continue seeing her neurologist.
