Question
I just lost it with my 4-year-old daughter. She threw a toy car at my 2 y.o. and it hit his face. I screamed like never before, and I told her to go to her room, that she can stay there all day. Now what?
Answer
Go back to her. Let her know that you made a mistake in screaming at her and understand that it scared her. Let her know you also felt scared for her brother's safety when she made the mistake of hurting him with the car. Tell her that you will work on screaming and she needs to practice not hurting her brother with a car or hurting anyone's body Hang in there. Remember that it's not the scream that hurts or damages; it's how we handle it afterwards that makes all the difference.
