At the nest we believe teens need to try on different personas, social groups, and emotional responses, all of which are confusing to their well-intentioned parent. At this phase of development both teen and parent need to mourn the loss of childhood and embrace the slow road ahead to adulthood. The group will normalize the experience of parenting an adolescent. We will discuss neurological, developmental, and psychological information on the inner world of teens. At the same time giving parents a community to decompress last weekend’s events.
For the teens the group will give them a safe space to work through the challenges of finding their way to adulthood. The group will be given information about their development both neurological and emotional as well as begin a discussion of their hopes, expectations, and frustrations in their road to adulthood.
